Both Solicitors Leave the PC Kevin Reid Case — On the Same Week.

Here’s something you don’t see every day in Scottish employment law the junior and supervising partner going at sametime is very strange.

The two solicitors who had been acting for Police Scotland in the employment tribunal case brought by PC Kevin Reid have both stepped away — at almost exactly the same time.

First was Jillian McLaughlan, the junior solicitor originally named on the case. She handled early procedural stages before the file later moved internally. Jillian has now left her role and appears to be moving into a new professional direction, no longer listed as practising Scottish employment law.

Then came Debbie Fellows, the senior solicitor who later appeared at hearings. Her departure is now public: she has been appointed as a salaried Employment Judge, with her start date formally announced by the Lord President. As part of that transition, she is leaving Thorntons Law LLP.

Two solicitors. Same case. Same week. Both gone.

Representation for Police Scotland has now passed to a new solicitor. Whatever the reasons behind the timing, it’s certainly unusual — and it adds yet another twist to a case that has already had more than a few.

We are going to follow both future careers with great interest and we wish them both well and have much better luck in their next jobs.
